LRB-001
This pillar is the kind of red, with deep red-black shadows, that you associate with rich old textiles or vintage Asian lacquered chests. It's stunningly understated. In all of our pieces, the stones are carefully chosen for features specifically appropriate to the piece. For this pillar, it was important to find a perfect black oval with an interesting pattern. We try out many rocks until one just owns the space. This one certainly does. All it needed was the tiny stack balanced (assembled with jeweler's epoxy) on top. It takes sorting through boxes of pebbles to find the perfect fit. It's a bold statement for one so small! You'll also notice that the inside of the niche nearly glows because of the colors used to paint it. The effect is very Zen.
Framed in a contemporary black floater frame which leaves a gap between the inside edge of the frame and outside edge of the art so that visually you feel the pillar as a 3D object itself.
Looks stone-like and heavy but weighs only 12 pounds, easily hung on a standard three nail picture hook.
61.5 inches long x 7.5 inches wide x 3-4 inches deep.
